Health and Safety Courses
Salter College offers a number of massage modality courses as well as CPR, first aid and general health and safety courses. These courses are ideal for healthcare professionals who wish to expand their knowledge or for individuals who understand the importance of learning what to do in an emergency. Students interested in attending a safety course in Massachusetts can learn more about the following programs:
Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens – In a number of emergency settings, understanding the danger of blood and airborne pathogens can be life-saving. This course discusses disease transmission and exposure control, among other important topics.
Standard First Aid – This first aid course gives students the skills and knowledge to perform basic first aid when it is necessary. They will learn first aid techniques to be used in both minor and major situations along with taking certification test.
Basic Life Support – CPR – Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, can save lives. This CPR and first aid course will train students to be able to use CPR, the Heimlich Maneuver and other techniques in an emergency. Students will also take an exam to receive certification.
Phlebotomy Technician – In a number of medical settings, blood must be drawn for testing and other uses in determining care and treatment of patients. This course teaches blood drawing procedures in addition to background knowledge in areas like anatomy and safety.
Pregnancy Massage – Massage therapy can be relaxing for many people, including pregnant women. However, massage techniques need to be specified to the health and comfort of a pregnant woman. This course provides techniques and advice in handling difficult pregnancies and the proper techniques to use.
Sport Massage – Athletes use their muscles quite a bit, and massage can be used to ease the pain of their injuries and assist in recovery. This course teaches massage techniques to be used with athletes, as well as with others who have acute pain injuries or disabilities.
Myofascial Release – Myofascial massage focuses on how connective, muscles and nerve tissues all interact. This course will educate students on that interaction and on techniques that are often used in myofascial massage.
