Phlebotomy Technician
The Phlebotomy Technician course emphasizes the theory and procedures of blood collection for diagnostic testing and prepares candidates to become contributing members of healthcare teams found in hospitals, surgical centers, laboratories, medical offices and more. This comprehensive program includes blood drawing procedures such as venipunctures, arterial punctures, special blood collections and micro-sampling, along with medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology, safety practices, analytical laboratory procedures, and point-of-care testing. Competencies and objectives are met through formal lecture, laboratory simulation and hands-on practice and a clinical practicum. This 120-hour course requires the successful completion of both the lecture and lab sections. Students must perform at 75% or better on a pass/fail basis.
